Why I Love Titanium White Acrylic Paint

There is probably no colour I use more than Titanium White.

It may not be the most exciting colour on the palette, but it is one of the most important. For me, a good white needs to cover well, mix beautifully and give me the ability to make colours lighter without becoming difficult to control.

That’s why Golden Titanium White has earned its place on my palette.

The Workhorse of the Palette

Titanium White is the colour I reach for constantly.

I use it to lighten colours, create highlights, adjust values, mix softer colours and make all sorts of colour variations.

Golden describes its Titanium White as its most opaque white, made with Titanium Dioxide.

That coverage is a big part of why I like it.

Excellent Coverage

When I need something to really cover what is underneath, Titanium White does the job.

Whether I’m adding a strong highlight or covering an area that needs to be corrected, having a dependable white makes painting so much easier.

And for acrylic painters, that ability to make corrections is pretty valuable!

Mixing Without Losing Control

Titanium White is also essential for mixing lighter colours.

I use it to create lighter greens, blues, reds, yellows and everything in between.

Of course, adding white will generally reduce the intensity of a colour to some degree. But sometimes that is exactly what I want—a lighter, softer version of the colour.

Highlights That Pop

There are times in a painting when you need that final little bit of light.

A bright highlight can make an object feel three-dimensional, bring sparkle to water, add light to an eye or make a flower petal stand out.

Titanium White is my go-to for those moments.

Why It Has Become a Favourite

A good white is not optional on my palette. It is one of the colours that makes all the others more useful.

  • Excellent coverage

  • Golden’s most opaque white

  • Versatile mixing colour

  • Great for highlights

  • Excellent for corrections

  • Made with Titanium Dioxide

  • Excellent lightfastness

If you’re building an acrylic palette, Titanium White is one colour I would never leave out.

It may not be glamorous—but it is absolutely the workhorse of my palette.
